The Domino Effect by Julie Elizabeth Leto

Domino Black has been trained by the government to kill people in order to preserve national security. Normally, she just shows up and carries out her assignment as directed, but this time was different. She needed to extract information from her assignment using any means possible, including sex, in order to determine his guilt. Then once his guilt has been established, she can carry out her assignment. But Domino made a fatal mistake – she fell in love.

The second Extreme Blaze is an interesting contrast to the first. While the first has a science fiction theme underpinning the story, this book was set in the shadowy world of secret government espionage. However like the first one, this story was extremely fast paced and the sex was definitely high energy. Also like the first one, this book left the characters in a situation where a happily ever after was impossible, though the book does find a way to insure the hero and heroine get their happily ever after. This book may not be for everyone, but I know I enjoyed it. If you liked the first Extreme Blaze, I’m certain you’ll like this one too.

Single in Suburbia by Wendy Wax

Imagine one day, your husband of nearly 20 years decides to trade you in on a newer model. Next, your divorce lawyer finds out that your husband mismanaged your assets so badly that you were on the verge of losing the house anyway. Finally, you learn that all of your friends have abandoned you. What do you do? First, you join forces with the other outcasts in the neighborhood, a brand new trophy wife who hasn’t a clue how to navigate life in the suburbs, and the much-married lady who’s dating the your son’s baseball coach. There you realize each member of the threesome has the knowledge to help the others. Now can these three women help each other to overcome the challenges of being single in suburbia?

I love Wendy’s off the wall sense of humor and you’re never quiet sure where she’s going next. The characters are funny and everything you would expect in a chick-lit novel, except for the first person point of view. Yet this book combines many aspects of a traditional romance, including the happily-ever-after ending. So if you like humor combined with quirky contemporary characters, I think you’ll love this book.

Calamity Jayne Rides Again by Kathleen Bacus

Tressa Jayne Turner, aka, Calamity Jayne, is back, this time dishing ice cream for her uncle at the Iowa State fair. But when a series of suspicious accidents targeted at his ice cream stands, Tressa finds herself in the middle of a mystery. Fortunately, Ranger Rick is on the scene and just in case things go wrong (an absolute certainty with Calamity Jayne), Rick’s grandfather and Tressa’s grandmother are around to provide backup. Rogers and Hammerstein never envisioned a state fair quite like this one. :)

Remember that Tressa is both young (only 23) and mentally challenged (What do you call a blonde in a freezer? A Frosted Flake. ), so the stage is set for tons of comedy and more than a few blonde jokes. So if you ever attended a state fair and wondered about what goes on behind this scenes, and you’re not a stickler for accuracy ) , this book is definitely for you.

Act of War by Dale Brown

When a small nuclear device destroys a major oil refinery near Houston Texas, the country is stunned and then outraged. The President wants to declare war against the terrorists, but until he can convince the rest of the country, he dispatches a top-secret team led by Major Jason Richter to investigate and take action against the perpetrators. Richter quickly finds that the device was detonated by a radical environmental group who have been attacking energy plants all over the world. But then he learns that the terrorists are being fed information about his team’s every movement. Now with the battleground shifted to the United States, can Richter and his team find the mole and prevent the total destruction of America.

This isn’t a continuation of Dale Brown’s Dreamland series of books. Instead this book establishes a new set of characters and the major weapons system revolves around a robot-like exoskeleton developed by Richter. The book isn’t completely about fighting battles with future technology as there is a hint of romance in the book too. :) Like Dale’s previous book, this one keeps you turning pages until you know that America is safe again – at least until the next book. If you love techno-thrillers or know someone who does ( ;) ), I highly recommend this book.

Highland Fling Jennifer LaBrecque

Dr. Kate Wexford felt an incredible attraction to a portrait she found in the Sex through the Ages traveling museum exhibit. Kate couldn’t describe why she was drawn toward Darach MacTavish, Laird of Glenagan, but on the final night of the exhibit, went to see the painting one last time and found herself naked in Darach’s bed. Darach don’t fully understand how the naked girl ended up in his bed, but when she claimed that she was was from the future, he wondered what to do with the crazy woman. Kate knows that Darach will die soon and she needs to use all her skills to save Darach’s life, even if it meant changing history.

The second time travel Blaze left me confused as this story is completely independent from the first one, except for the museum exhibit. It didn’t deal with the open issues from the first story, which I had expected. On the other hand, if look at this story as a stand alone title, it's extremely well done. The best parts of the story are where Darach returned to the present with Kate and learned about life in the twenty-first century. All in all, I really enjoyed this story and if you’re into Scottish Lairds, I think you’ll enjoy it too.

Just One Taste by Wendy Etherington

Vanessa Douglas is a disappointment to her parents. They expected her to follow in their footsteps and move among the elite in Atlanta, while Vanessa wants to live her own life. Cut off from her parent's money, Vanessa is struggling to make her desert business successful when she meets the handsome, Lucas Broussard. Just one glance is enough for Vanessa to want to climb into his bed and never get out. Though Lucas has bigger plans which he hopes will mend the divide between Vanessa and her parents. When Vanessa gets wind of Lucas’s plans, she boots him out of her life. Now it’s up to Lucas to repair his relationship with Vanessa, as well as her relationship with her parents.

Blaze now publishes a wide range of stories ranging from stories so gripping, you’re tense during the entire novel to stories that are so hot that you’re almost embarrassed to read them. However sometimes you just want to read a story that fun. Wendy’s story is a refreshing novel that I would normally classify as a traditional Blaze, but there’s way too much depth to it. Her characters are lively and fun and she manages to weave humor throughout the entire story. When you get tired of reading books like the White Star, check out this book. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Angel with Attitude by Michelle Rowen

Getting kicked out of Heaven is a bad way to start your day. But as the ex-angle, Valerie Grace learns, it’s only the beginning. Being human means that you have to put up with colds, sore bodies and creepy men. But there’s a glimmer of hope. If she can do enough good deeds and avoid temptation for the next 70 years, she just might make it back into Heaven. Of course, there’s no way in Hell, the Devil is going to let something that pass, so he dispatches a sexy tempter named Nathaniel to make sure that Valerie never makes it home. But a slight complication becomes a hellacious mess as Valerie finds herself responsible for recovering the Key to Heaven. Now can Valerie convince Nathaniel to help her to save Heaven and Earth or will Valerie succumb to Nathaniel’s charms and live the rest of her life in Hell?

I love Michelle’s story and her sense of humor. I frequently found myself laughing at passages throughout the book. I also thought the ending was strong and powerful and funny as well. If your taste in books is just a little wacky, and if don’t mind reading a book about Angels and Demons, then you really should give this one a read.

Boys of Summer by Julie Elizabeth Leto, Kimberly Raye and Leslie Kelly

All three stories are set in Louisville Kentucky, the home of one of the hottest Major League Baseball teams, the Slammers. Unfortunately a bad business deal may force the team to leave Louisville, which will really hurt the three businesses run by the three heroines that are closely coupled to the team. With the impending doom, each of the three young ladies vows to have one last fling before their world collapses around them.

In Fever Pitch by Julie Elizabeth Leto, Callie Andrews runs a high end restaurant that she created using the money from her divorce from the Slammer’s owner, Donovan Ross. But while Callie has put the divorce behind her, Donovan hasn’t. But when Callie offers Donovan, a safe place to stay after he’s attacked by some fans, who knows where things could lead.

In The Sweet Spot by Kimberly Raye, Babe Bannister runs a busy ice cream parlor featuring tempting dishes named after famous players. But when she sets her sights on the hunky shortstop, Brodie Jessup, the team’s coach stops the play. Babe is furious and turns her attention to Brodie, who’s more than willing to save her for himself.

In Sliding Home by Leslie Kelly, Janie Nolan runs her brother’s sports memorabilia store, while he’s serving in the national guard. Though Janie would much rather be working in a “community for the enlightened years”, with folks like her grandmother and her grandmother's boyfriend who often helps her identify valuable merchandise. Unfortunately, her grandmother’s boyfriend turns out to be Riley Kelleher, the team’s star pitcher, grandfather. Janie finds herself attracted to the hot looking player, and now she’s afraid that Riley is going to make a move and even more afraid that he won’t.

Three hot authors. Three hot stories. ‘nuff said.

A Bite to Remember by Lynsay Sands

So many accidents have happened around Vincent Argeneau lately that he decided to hire a private investigator. But when Jackie Morrisey arrives on the scene, he was doubly surprised, not only is Jackie a hot looking girl – she’s also a mortal. While Jackie frequently solves problems for immortals like Vincent, she’s had some bad experiences with them in the past, leaving her extra cautious when dealing with them. The danger escalates as Jackie and Vincent search for the guilty party, but so does her attraction to the 400 year old vampire. Now she must decide whether she should stick around to protect Vincent or run away and save herself from Vincent.

I don’t think I’ve ever read a bad Linsay Sands book. However since she switched to Avon, I think she’s lost some of the humor that I really loved. Still, I think if you’re a Linsay Sands fan or you’re into vampire stories, I think you’ll like this story.

Innuendo by Crystal Green

Tamara Clarkson is searching for her place in life. But the search needn’t be boring right? So she grabs a chance to go out with the hot looking Kyle Sullivan. Unfortunately, Kyle decides that Tam doesn’t live up to his high standards even though his cousin Murphy finds her the hottest woman he’s ever seen. Murphy volunteers to take Kyle’s place, and Tam believes he’s Kyle. Now Murphy finds himself forced to play the carefree and shallow Kyle, while suppressing his sensitive and caring side. But as the relationship transforms from a booty call into something more, Murphy knows that the lie will ultimately break them apart, but he’s also afraid that telling her the truth will hurt her even more.

The For A Good Time Call…, series hints that the pairings will have a strong sexual angle and this story delivers on that promise. This is an interesting story as you get to watch Kyle realize that life is more than going out with a different woman every night, and see Murphy realize that it’s okay to make a mistake now and then. Crystal also left this story open to a number of sequels which I hope to see in the near future.

Closer… by Jo Leigh

For the last five months, Christie Pratchett was the target of a stalker and the police and FBI are unable to do anything to help her. The guy knows everything all her secrets and is making her life a living hell. He cost her her job, and now the IRS has frozen her bank accounts. Her only hope is an emergency telephone number that her dead brother left. With nothing left to lose, she calls it and is connected to a pizza parlor. With no hope left, she contemplates her options when a mysterious man appears inside her bedroom promising to save her. Now Christine needs to decide if this man is her stalker or her savior?

I loved this book. While it’s part of the Forbidden Fantasies series, it really stands alone – in fact Jo promised you’ll see the same characters in a new series starting at the end of the year. This story is gripping from the very first page and Jo managed to throw a few twists in along the way just to make sure that you can’t guess the ending., You might want to read this in a single sitting as you’ll find it very hard to put down. So if you love a good romantic suspense, couple with lots of sexual tension, you’ll love this book too.

The Sex Quotient by Jamie Sobrato

Macy Thomaston holds the key to landing the job of creative director at her advertising agency, an unpublished medical study proving that orgasms lead to a temporary loss of brain power. When her competition, Griffin Reed invites her to Las Vegas to study the hotel which is the focus of their next project, Macy decides to pull out all stops and have sex with Griffin until he becomes a babbling idiot. The only hitch in her plan is that she can’t have an orgasm; not even a little one. Now can Macy pull this off or will she end up or will she be the one losing IQ points and the promotion.

A member of the It’s All About Attitude collection, this is definitely one hot book. After working on some chapters for the Blaze Writers Round Robin, I was really looking forward to reading this book and it didn’t disappoint. It’s filled with lots of sex and sexual tension. Though I didn’t like the way the story ended for Macy’s friend, Lauren :( . So I’m hoping I'll be reading her story in the not too distant future :) .
