Thanksgiving by Janet Evanovich

Megan Murphy loved Colonial Williamsburg in the fall, but when Patrick Hunter’s runaway rabbit began nibbling on her clothes, she decided to return him and give him a piece of her mind. Unfortunately, as she was starting to chew him out, a girl in her young twenties mistakes her for Patrick’s wife and asks the couple to tend to her infant baby. Promising to come back in a few weeks, the girl departs leaving the surprised couple with a child to care for. Soon Megan and Pat find themselves living as a family, but the real question is this for real or just a dream.

This is a cute story, with a great premise and a lot of potential. But for some reason it didn’t really grab me. To me, Megan seemed to be a little to ditzy at times as she bounces from one extreme to the other. Still it was an easy read and Janet painted a really nice picture of life in modern day Colonial Williamsburg. So if you’re an Evanovich fan, pick up a copy and bring a smile to your face.

Must Love Dragons by Stephanie Rowe

Theresa Nichols has been bored with her life ever since she lost the ability to change from her dragon form into that of a woman. Even her new cyber-sex friend Zeke Siccardi, thinks she should get out and have a little fun. Now Theresa is prepared to stop at nothing to regain her human form, even if it means making a deal with the devil.

I liked this story, especially how Theresa makes her deal with the devil, though it’s a little hard to believe some of the devil’s motivations for making the deal. Still it definitely brought a smile to my face and I really enjoyed Stephanie’s quirky sense of humor.

Carpe Demon by Julie Kenner

When Kate Conner, an average stay-at-home-mom with a husband, two kids, and a mortgage, finds a real demon in her neighborhood Wal-Mart, all hell breaks loose. What the demon doesn’t realize that Kate is a retired demon hunter and while she’s a little out of practice, she’s still as deadly as ever. Unfortunately her family doesn’t know about her past. Now Kate is on to the biggest challenge of her life (okay, second biggest challenge – coordinating the car pool is still number one ;) ), a high demon is interested in a holy relic stored in a nearby cathedral. So unless she finds a way to stop the demon and his minions, her family, her town and possibly the whole world may be destroyed.

This is one of the funniest books I’ve read in a while, but I guess it really doesn’t qualify as a romance novel, because there isn’t any romance :( . Julie painted an incredibly detailed picture of everyday life in a modern suburban community. But when you least expect it, she seamlessly drops you into a paranormal world that coexists with the one we’re familiar. For example, you’re shopping for dog food in your local Wal-Mart, and you notice a demon in a human body, shopping there too. This book is so good, it’s not going in my have-been-read-read pile, but going back in my to-be-read pile, so that when I get a copy of the sequel California Demon, I’ll read the pair together.

Relentless by Jo Leigh

While Kate Rydell does her best to hide in plain sight, she finds herself the only witness to a gang related murder. Now with two groups seeking Kate, analyzing the data becomes even more difficult. And even more important. When Detective Vince Yarrow’s friend is assassinated in his hotel room, the only witness disappears. But Vince refuses to give up and soon has Kate in his sights. When he promised to protect her, he never realized that the least of his problems are the gang members that want her dead. Now it’s up to him to keep her safe until she finishes her work, even if it costs their lives.

This is the first volume in the In Too Deep… series. I’m very impressed with the story Jo created and the plot is among the most complex I’ve ever seen in a Blaze. It’s a masterpiece and you’ll never know what to expect next. The tension between the characters is great. Though I’m sorry I read the book now, because I’ll have to wait until January to read the next volume. :( If you love romantic suspense at it most dangerous, buy this book now.

Tell Me Your Secrets… by Cara Summers

Brooke Ashby just learned she has a twin sister – a twin sister who’s been missing for five weeks. Knowing that Cameron may be the victim of foul play, Brooke decides to assume her sister’s identity and make an appearance at her home. But little did she suspect that she’d fall into bed with her sister’s fiancĂ© Sloan Campbell. Sloan knows that the person claiming to be Cameron isn’t, because he’s far more attracted to this woman that his fiancĂ©. Now can Brooke succumb to Sloan’s charms before she finds the person behind her sister’s disappearance or will she suffer the same fate as her sister.

I really enjoyed the soap opera writer heroine and how she managed to tie everything back to the stories she wrote. I also liked seeing Pepper again from When She Was Bad… (Blaze #239). Cara did an exceptional job with the mystery and the ending was very powerful. This book would definitely be worth reading a second time. If you enjoy complex Blaze stories, then I know you’ll love this book.

Fully Engaged by Catherine Mann

Just before the doctors performed a mastectomy, Lieutenant Nola Seabrook had a one night stand with Captain Rick DeMassi. Five years later, Nola seeks out Rick in order to make peace with her past. But before she has a chance, a car bomb exploded, nearly killing the couple. Now Rick wants to find her mysterious stalker, but with his legs still recovering from his last rescue mission, it seems that Nola is spending more time helping him. Can Rick and Nola find and overcome the stalker or will they both fall victim to his next trap?

I enjoy reading romantic suspense and this book is a great example. I loved the way Catherine gave glimpses into the stalkers mind, while keeping his identity hidden. And tossing in Rick’s teenage daughter made the story even more appealing. I rarely read Intimate Moments and I guess that’s a mistake if all of those books are of this caliber. If you like books that keep you turning pages to find out what’s going to happen next, bump this book to the head of your reading list.

A Scent of Seduction by Colleen Collins

When the San Diego Times book editor Kathryn Walters dabs a touch of the magic elixir behind her ear, she attracts the attention of hunky sports editor, Coyote Sullivan. But does Kathryn really want his attention? After all they’re both competing for the Crest of the Wave prize for best editor on the paper. And the prize money would go a long way to rebuilding her life after what happened three years ago. But she can’t help herself and neither can Coyote. But the real problem is can she hold on to Coyote, even after she runs out of Lust Potion #9

Interesting characters, some tension and a lot of hot sex add up to a very nice story. I think Colleen did a very good job of tying Kathryn’s past problems to Coyote’s current problems, plus using quotes from an erotic murder mystery really made things interesting. If you’re looking for a hot read, you definitely need to check this book out.

Blondes Prefer Billionaires by Suzanne Enoch

When Samantha Jellicoe runs into her dead father at a Sotheby’s art auction, she knows her world is about to turn upside down. Even though she no longer steals priceless paintings, her father pressures her into doing it for old times sake. Even her billionaire boyfriend Richard Addison, can’t change her mind. Samantha has a plan to save her father, but it means risking her freedom and possibly her life. Will she be able to convince Rick to help, or will he whisk her away to England where she’ll be safe, but powerless to save her father?

The third installment in this series brings back all of the edginess that I enjoyed in the first story. The plot has enough twists and turns to leave you wondering what’s going to happen next. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and if you like romance with an element of danger, I know you’ll like this one too.

Infatuation by Alison Kent

Milla Page reviews dating hot spots for MatchMeUpOnline.com. Despite all of the men she’s taken to these places she still hasn’t found a replacement for Rennie Bergen, her college lover. However when his business card shows up in the “booty bowl”, Milla decides to go for and arranges to take him out on her next date. Soon Milla and Rennie are back in bed (and many other places too ;) ) reliving their time in college. But both Milla and Rennie need something else to form a real relationship. But is Milla ready to bare her soul to her lover, or will she have to suffer through a second breakup with Rennie?

Alison based Rennie’s character on from Jessie James who stared in Monster Garage (a cool show broadcast on The Discovery Channel for four seasons :) ). The story is filled with hot sex and sexual tension and you’ll also see glimpses of their past, which explains their actions in the present. Unfortunately, she didn’t share all of the details on Rennie’s project car. I know at least one reader that would have enjoyed reading that part too :D . Still, if you’re an Alison Kent fan, you’d better have this book

Ghouls Just Want To Have Fun by Kathleen Bacus

Tressa “Calamity” Jayne Turner is back again, but this time she’s after the story of a lifetime. A reclusive writer arrives at the haunted mansion just outside of town. No one has seen or spoken to the author in years. If she could just land the interview, Tressa was certain she’d be able to get a full-time job on the newspaper. The only thing stopping her was a blackmailing homecoming queen candidate who also wants to meet the writer, a grandmother with a collection of fertility gods who moves into Tressa’s home, her grandmother’s boyfriend who supposedly was paid $50 bucks to take the writer to her high school prom, a rival reporter who thinks he has the inside track to the story and that sexy park ranger who always manages to show up just in time to spoil her plans or save her life. But as Tressa digs into the mystery behind the writer, the more likely it is that she’ll end up laying in the graveyard near the haunted house.

My original plan was to post this review on Halloween, but despite its title, haunted house and the occasional ghost this isn’t a Halloween story. While it’s funny in many places too, something is missing in this story that I enjoyed in her previous stories. It could be that the collection of blonde jokes is missing , but more likely there just wasn’t the continuous danger and sexual tension that kept me turning the pages in her previous books. Still it’s an enjoyable read and one that any Calamity Jayne fan would like.
