Spying in High Heels by Gemma Halliday

Maddie Springer’s day started out badly when she realized she was late. Not late for work or late with her newest shoe design, but late as in “oh my god, I might be pregnant”. When she stops by to give the father, Richard Howe, the news, she finds him in the middle of an argument with a dangerous looking man. When the guy leaves, Richard cancels their lunch date. But when the dangerous guy returns, Maddie learns that Jack Ramirez is a detective for the LAPD. He lets her know that Richard is married and may have left the country with 20 million in embezzled funds. Maddie is furious and begins her own investigation only to be shot at and accused of murder. Now Maddie needs to stay one step ahead of Ramirez as she attempts to find the real villain, only Ramirez is ready to do nearly anything he can to stop her.

This is an cute chick-lit story and I really liked the pregnant angle. Add in a cast of wacky characters ranging from her mother who is planning her own bachelor party to her best friend who changes boyfriends quicker than most people change socks. There’s a lot of humor packed in this book and if you like chick-lit, I think reading it will bring a smile to your face.

Bottom line: A very good book
